The Subtle Art Of Not Giving a F*ck - Mark Mansion

Don’t Try: Feedback loop from hell

You are constantly bombarded with messages to give a fuck about everything, all the time. Giving too many bad for your mental health. The key to good life is not giving a fuck about more; its giving a fuck about less, giving a fuck about only what is true and immediate and important.

“The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience.”

Happiness is a Problem: Disappointment Panda

Happiness is a constant work in progress. It happens by solving the problem. People who enjoy the struggles of a gym are the ones who run marathons and people who enjoy long workweeks are the politics of the corporate ladder to the top of it.

You are not special: Entitlement

If you think you are special it leads to entitlement mentality, Once you accept you are normal, its liberating, and you will be able to enjoy the boring side of life: friendships, reading a book, laughing, creating something.

The Value of Suffering:  Self-Awareness Onion

What purpose you are suffering?. Your values should be reality based, socially helpful and controllable. Pick and decide good values.

Shitty Values

  1. Pleasure
  2. Material Success
  3. Always being right
  4. Staying positive

Good Values

  1. Honesty
  2. Innovation
  3. Vulnerability
  4. Standing up for oneself
  5. Standing up for others
  6. Self-respect
  7. Curiosity
  8. Charity
  9. Humility
  10. Creativity

You are always Choosing:

We cant control what happen to us, but we can certainly choose what it means to us and how we respond to it. Its your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response. The real question is, what are we choosing to give a fuck about? what values are we choosing to base our actions on? what metrics are we choosing to use to measure our life? and are those good choices-good values and good metrics.

Failure is the way forward: Do-it Principle

Failure comes from picking wrong values, and life is about not knowing but doing it anyway, “Action doesn't just happen because of motivation, it causes the motivation” . Like going to the gym don't need a motivation.. if you have been there it  will create motivation for next day.

The Importance of saying No:

The only way to achieve a sense of meaning in life is to reject total and boundless freedom and choose instead  to commit to something. Like a place, a relationship, or even a belief. You got say NO to numerous distraction to achieve one.

And Then you Die: Mortality

We all gonna a die one day, that is the fact. Reflect on that and then demand yourself saying should you really waste your time doing things you don't like or don't care about?

The One Thing–Gary Keller

Prioritize your tasks: Pareto Principle

Not all task are the same, so prioritize your task and do which is most important thing right now. The question to ask yourself when doing any thing.

“What is the ONE THING I can do such that doing it everything else will become easier or unnecessary”

Its like a mantra.

Key areas to think before you do your one thing

  • Spiritual life
  • Physical health
  • Personal life
  • Relationships
  • Work
  • Personal Finance

Good Habits: 66 days

Stick with the selective discipline long enough for it to become routine. Habits, on average, take 66 days to form. Once a habit is solidly established, you can either build on that habit or, if appropriate, build another one.

Willpower: Fuel tank

Do what matters most first each day when your willpower is strongest. Willpower is a fuel tank it gets depleted when we make decisions to focus our attention, suppress our feelings and impulses, or modify our behavior in pursuit of goals. so willpower must be managed.

Time-Block: Productive

If its a regular thing, block off the appropriate time every day so it becomes a habit, Everything else-other projects, paperwork, e-mail, calls, correspondence, meetings, and all the other stuff must wait. Usually mornings 1-4 hours for meditation, exercise, running. At work 1 hour for reading and learning new skills.

On doing your one thing, you have to accept chaos, ability to say “No”, be healthy to achieve great things, find group or friends who are achieving the same.
